Reference Trying to get my head around this one. There are 21 million bosses in the US. So says Robert Sutton in his book, Good Boss, Bad Boss - How to Be the Best…and Learn from the Worst. And, they probably all see themselves as leading high performing teams. I found it to be a very useful book, to help increase self awareness in those who would lead. What I found missing was an in-depth discussion of group dynamics. I think it's great to "heat up leadership." Robert Sutton does this very well with a number of great examples. I also know we have to "heat up membership" in order to attain and sustain high performance. The book is full of good ideas on self management and self awareness. It has an upbeat and conversational style. I enjoyed reading it, but have to confess, it's not a book that lends itself to a quick read in one sitting. It's thought provoking. I tended to pick it up read a bit and then ponder the message. Good job, Robert.
Lately I have been noticing another reason I like my Kindle so much. It's made for books like this one. I underline sections that really stand out and save them in the Kindle. When I am working with a team or a leader often I can remember something I read that would be useful to share. Having this amazing light weight extension of my brain can't be beat.
